On the occasion of World NGO Day 2026, a dignified and inspiring ceremony was held at a local hotel in Faisalabad to confer the prestigious SWERA Award (Social Work Encouragement, Civic Engagement, Recognition & Appreciation) upon distinguished individuals for their outstanding humanitarian services and community leadership.
The event brought together social sector leaders, academicians, civil society representatives, youth volunteers, development professionals, and members of various nonprofit organizations. The ceremony was organized to recognize individuals whose dedication and commitment have created measurable impact in society, especially during times of crisis.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome note highlighting the global significance of World NGO Day, observed annually on February 27 to recognize the efforts of NGOs and social leaders worldwide.
In his keynote address, Zafar Iqbal, Founder of The NGO World and Goodwill Ambassador, World NGO Day – Pakistan, emphasized that the SWERA Awards aim to honor individuals who demonstrate compassion, integrity, and commitment in serving humanity—particularly during times of crisis.
He noted that recognition strengthens the culture of volunteerism and encourages professionals and youth to actively participate in social transformation.
Initiated in 2013, the SWERA Awards (Social Work Encouragement, Civic Engagement, Recognition & Appreciation) were established by The NGO World to recognize individuals demonstrating exceptional commitment to humanitarian service and civic leadership. Over the years, the awards have evolved into a respected platform celebrating transformative contributions across diverse sectors of social development.
Continuing this meaningful tradition, the SWERA Awards 2026 were presented on World NGO Day to honor change makers whose dedication to youth empowerment, women inclusion, ethical leadership, literacy promotion, and community development has created measurable and lasting impact.
Mr. Junaid Subhani, FCA (Fellow Chartered Accountant), is a distinguished finance professional recognized for his leadership in governance, compliance, and strategic financial management. Honored with the SWERA Award 2026, he has utilized his expertise to promote transparency, institutional integrity, and sustainable development initiatives within corporate and community sectors.
Prof. Dr. Asif Naveed Ranjha, Chairman, Department of Social Work at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, was honored with the SWERA Award 2026 for his exemplary humanitarian leadership during the 2025 South Punjab floods, coordinating large-scale relief efforts and supporting thousands of affected families through organized rehabilitation initiatives.
Mr. Ali Raza was honored with the SWERA Award 2026 in recognition of his visionary leadership and transformative contributions to youth empowerment. As Founder & CEO of YES Network Pakistan, he pioneered the Trust-First Model, engaging over 500,000 young people and inspiring them to become confident, responsible change makers.
Mr. Imtiaz Ali Asad was honored with the SWERA Award 2026 in recognition of his impactful role as a professional journalist, Editor, and Founder of Shabo-Roze, Khanewal. Through ethical and purpose-driven journalism, he consistently advocates for social good, people’s welfare, and the rights of underserved communities, promoting meaningful social change.
Ms. Shaheen Atiq ur Rehman, Vice Chairperson of Bunyad Literacy and Community Council, was honored with the SWERA Award 2026 for her longstanding contributions to literacy, education, and community development, empowering women and marginalized communities through visionary leadership and inclusive, community-based initiatives across Pakistan.
Following the presentation of awards, the ceremony transitioned into a segment recognizing the distinguished contributions of the awardees. Their work across education, women empowerment, youth development, ethical journalism, and community leadership reflected the multidimensional impact of the SWERA Award 2026 and its commitment to sustainable social progress.
Prof. Dr. Asif Naveed Ranjha reflected on humanitarian coordination during the 2025 floods in South Punjab. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between universities, NGOs, and community forums to ensure structured, transparent, and effective disaster response.
During his speech, Mr. Ali Raza passionately addressed the youth present at the ceremony. He emphasized that young people are not just the future — they are the present force of change.
He stressed that meaningful transformation begins with small, consistent actions driven by sincerity and purpose. His motivating words deeply resonated with young attendees and received warm appreciation from the audience.
